Water Saving Suggestions

Posted by remerica on April 21, 2008

Recently I heard a report that said leaving the water running while brushing our teeth uses some unheard of number of gallons of water.  While not believing the unbelievable number, the report did give me cause to think even harder about the role I play in conservation and the greater picture of environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Following is a list of suggestions on how to conserve our precious water source…without spending a dime.

*  Turn the water off while brushing your teeth or shaving.

*  Fill a milk jug with stones and place it in your toilet tank to displace water.

*  Check your water-saving toilet to be sure it has not been modified to allow more water through per flush.

*  Fix toilet and faucet leaks as soon as you notice them.

*  Don’t use your toilet as a readily available trash can…think of the # of extra flushes using all that water!

*  Let’s face it…no one is going to step into a shower until it is at least a bit on the warm side….collect that “warm-up” water to use in other ways such as watering the flowerbeds.

*  Use a timer to limit showers to 5 minutes.
